Don’t do Exterior Painting in the Fall
Exterior Cincinnati Painting of a house in the fall can cause issues of cracking, peeling, and flaking within a year or two. It is not always because you didn’t prepare correctly or used bad paint, but you just may have waited too late into the season for outdoor painting. There is a scientific reason for this problem.
The chemical reason is what happens in the process of the drying and bonding process of the paint. Two processes are happening at the same time, one the vehicle (either the latex or the oil) evaporates and seals as the paint dries. The other is that there is a chemical reaction happening in the paint itself. These chemical processes have to happen in a warm environment.
Even the paint can labels warn about not applying the paint below 50 degrees and some of these cool fall nights can dip into the 30’s. When it is too cool the chemical reaction that needs to happen for proper adherence doesn’t happen and the paint doesn’t adhere properly and will peel off in a shorter amount of time.
Most primers and caulks also need warm temperatures to dry properly. So if you decide that you just have to paint something, paint inside, Fall is a great time to paint indoors.
